How we pick the coops we recommend

MyChickenCoop.com helps backyard chicken keepers find the right coop. We dig through Amazon listings, read buyer reviews and compare specs so you can choose a coop that fits your flock without doing the research yourself.

What the site is

The heart of the site is one list: the nine best chicken coops you can actually buy, last updated in May 2026. Around it sit a buyer's guide, a gear section, and The Roost, our blog on coop size, predator-proofing, materials and how many birds a backyard can hold.

We organize the picks by flock size, so whether you are bringing home your first three hens or expanding a flock of twenty, you can jump straight to what fits. The range runs from about $100 to more than $2,000, and every coop links directly to its listing.

How we picked

Amazon is flooded with chicken coops, and a lot of them are junk: thin wood, flimsy hardware, misleading size claims, and chicken wire where hardware cloth should be. Our filter is built around the things that go wrong. We look at build quality, real-world buyer feedback, predator protection, ease of cleaning, and value for money.

The method is research, not a test barn. We went through hundreds of Amazon listings, more than a hundred coops in all, read thousands of reviews closely, and compared the specs line by line. The picks are the coops we think are worth your money after all of that.

Who it is for

Backyard chicken keepers at any stage: first-timers choosing a starter coop, and established keepers expanding a flock or replacing a coop that turned out to be flimsy.

The buyer's guide explains what matters before you spend: space per bird, predator protection, cleaning access and budget. The Roost goes deeper with guides on wood versus plastic, predator-proofing, coop size and the local rules on how many chickens you can keep.

How we make money

MyChickenCoop.com is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program. When you buy through our links, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. That commission does not decide which coops make the list or where they rank. We only recommend products we genuinely believe in.
